A next-generation sunroom combines thermally broken aluminum profiles, opening glass roof and wall systems, and smart controls in a single structure. Unlike older "glass box" sunrooms, it delivers living-room comfort 365 days a year: it holds heat in winter, and in summer the roof and walls open up to turn the space into a fully open terrace.

What separates a next-generation sunroom from a traditional one?

The core problem with traditional sunrooms was that they were seasonal: a greenhouse in summer, a cold storage room in winter. Next-generation systems solve this with several engineering upgrades.The difference starts with the frame. Older sunrooms were built with cold aluminum or PVC profiles; next-generation systems use thermally broken aluminum, so the frame doesn't transfer heat. Glazing moves from single or basic double panes to Low-E energy glass, with tempered and laminated options available.

In a next-generation system, the roof opens (up to 70% in the Dynamic system) and the walls stack away with sliding and bifold glass panels. Next-generation systems ship with Schildr's new dimmer-enabled receiver unit: roof, louvers, screens, and lighting are all controlled from a single app. Lighting uses RGB and heat-free LED systems — even on a summer evening, the fixtures don't warm the space.
